The Weimaraner was originally bred to meet the needs of the 19th-century German forester. Beginning with a houndlike fur mammal hunting strain, tracking breed that was aggressive toward predators, the Germans added the skill of bird-hunting and retrieving needed by the professional forester. Weimaraner Dog - The Weimaraner Breed Weimaraners are pointers and retrievers that have been used in various capacities such as hunting, tracking, police work and search and rescue. Seen from side, topline remains strong and level. Coat: The typical Weimaraner has a short, dense, smooth and sleek, mouse-to-silver grey color coat. In long-haired variety, coat from 2.5-5 cms (1-2 ins) long on body, somewhat longer on neck, chest and belly. Tail and back of limbs, feathered. Although the Weimaraner has a very short coat, it does shed although it is much less visible than the long haired breed.
